My
name is John Schofield and I welcome you to my company’s website. I am
married to Sue and with we have two daughters. I decided to finally set up by
own business having worked in the Commercial Office Products Industry for 24
years. To be honest, it had become very tedious and boring because of
advances made in technology. No longer was there any contact with clients or
suppliers other than through a keyboard! My
youngest when she was at pre-school brought home a sunflower seed to
germinate and grow. I helped her with her project with great success, a
14-foot whopper with a flower head as big as a dustbin lid! Next, she wanted
to grow an array of vegetables in our garden, carrots, cabbages, cucumbers
and beetroot, to name but a few. She was fascinated in how and why they grew
but before long Sue wanted her flowers back in our back garden. Being the
shrewd wife, Sue had contacted the local allotment association without my
knowledge and had arranged for myself and our youngest daughter to inspect
the vacant plots! My
little girl found the site exciting and fascinating, just the same as I had
when I was her age when visiting my grandfather’s garden. Vegetables
and flowers of all varieties growing everywhere! She
picked a suitable plot, aged 3! I had become what I considered to be the
youngest allotment holder aged 37. I worked all that first winter at every
opportunity to clean the plot out, get rid of knee high depth weeds and dig
out all their roots. Finally, by March the plot was ready for planting. At
this point I thought I was lost but the basic principles of gardening came
flooding back to me from what my grandfather taught me at a very young age.
Timing on seed sowing, planting out to avoid frost and some very clever ways
of producing fertiliser from plants growing all around us. That
very first year we grew an exceptional crop, hard work mind you, but the
efforts amounted to our family of four being virtually self sufficient in
groceries. Funny
thing is that Sue works for a well-known Supermarket chain. The girls
especially our youngest insist that our Home Grown produce is much nicer than
the pre packaged goods that is bought out of season, especially the
strawberries. No fooling a child eh? I was
actually amazed at the amount of produce that can be grown year round in the
UK, with really the only lean months being January until March. Those months
could be supplemented with good storage however! Since
those early days as I have become so confident and enthusiastic I decided to
made it my business to create vegetable and fruit gardens for people that
wish to grown Organic Produce on their own premises. The business now caters
for all types of garden landscaping, Maintenance and consultancy. |
